Golden Rules for Bad User Interfaces

As people like to do just the opposite of what is proposed, SAP Design Guild thought it might be a good idea to promote bad users interfaces. They've colleted 10 "Golden Rules for Bad User Interfaces" and plan to expand the collection in the future.

Remote Control Anarchy

Jakob Nielsen is fed up with his six remote controls. My suggestion to Dr. Nielsen and the rest of the world: Let's all boycott crummy consumer electronics and let them learn it the hard way.

This Is Broken a gallery of broken experiences

Mark Hurst's This Is Broken is a gallery of all kinds of stuff, where the customer experience has been messed up somehow. Great fun. You can contribute by submitting your own broken experiences.

Interface Hall of Shame revived

The good old Interface Hall of Shame from has been gone for a while, but I just found it at a new location. The Interface Hall of Shame is an "irreverent collection of common interface design mistakes". New entries are from June 4. 2000 but it's still an educational experience.

Bad product designs

Here's a scrapbook of illustrated examples of products that are hard to use because they do not follow human factors principles. The site is maintained by Michael J. Darnell.

How people feel about flash intros

It's boring, it's nonsense, it's utterly useless, and it goes on and on...

IKEA fan site

There's nothing new about sites that violate basic usability guidelines by purpose just for the fun of it. But it's never seen in a commercial context. The IKEA's fan-site has it all - ugly spinning animations, a disturbing background picture, a hit counter, frames, etc. The site is supported by TV commercials and is the cleverest advertising I've seen on the Internet.

The site is in Danish but you'll get the point. The commercials are also there and are worth seeing. Click the button "Se vores reklamefilm".
